Spread out heavy appliances to keep your capacity peak low
With a digital meter you pay part of your network costs based on your highest 15-minute peak each month, so avoid running oven, washer, dryer and kettle at the same time.

Since January 2023 Flanders uses a capacity tariff (capaciteitstarief). Your peak is the highest average power over any 15 minutes in a month; the yearly charge is based on the average of your 12 monthly peaks. Each household pays for at least 2.5 kW even if its peak is lower. Power you feed into the grid, for example from solar panels, doesn't count.
You can check the current month's peak on the digital meter display (press the button until code 1.6.0) or in Mijn Fluvius. Running the washing machine and dishwasher one after the other instead of together, and not cooking on all burners while charging an e-bike, usually keeps the peak down. Delay-start buttons and timers make that easier.
