Colder than needed wastes energy without keeping food longer. Defrost the freezer when ice builds up, keep the door seals clean, and leave space behind the appliance for air to flow. A fridge-freezer older than about ten years can use three times as much as a new A-label model; if it belongs to the landlord, that is worth mentioning.
