Fit thermostatic radiator valves and a programmable thermostat

Thermostatic valves let each room keep its own temperature and usually pay for themselves in under two years; a programmable thermostat handles the day and night schedule.

Thermostatic valves keep each room at its own temperature, so bedrooms and hallways stay cooler while the living room is warm. Suggested settings are about 20 °C (valve setting 3) in the living room, kitchen and study, and 16 to 18 °C (setting 2 to 2.5) in bedrooms. In the room with the thermostat, open the valve fully.

Choose a room thermostat with at least two programmes, one for the day and one for the night, and place it in the living room. A smart thermostat that heats according to when you are home suits irregular schedules or anyone who finds programming difficult.
