Enter your address on the Zonnekaart and it scores each part of your roof: green is ideal, yellow is usable, orange is limited or unsuitable. It also estimates the yield, cost and payback time, and shows where on the roof the yield is highest.

The map has limits. Its height data dates from 2013 to 2015, recent buildings get no score, and it does not check roof windows or whether the roof can carry the weight. Ask a certified installer to visit before you decide.

The rules around solar panels have changed: the turning-back meter ended in 2021, owners of solar panels have had to get a digital meter since 2025, and a capacity tariff applies since 2023. Since 1 April 2026, a surplus built up on an old turning-back meter is no longer compensated when the digital meter is installed. Running heavy appliances around midday, one after another, lets you use more of your own power and keeps your peak lower.
