Check your roof on the Walloon solar map

The Walloon Region's solar map (cartosolaire.wallonie.be) estimates the potential of your roof for solar panels that make electricity and for a solar water heater. Type in your address and it suggests a number of panels and their power, with an estimate of the cost, how much of your own use they could cover, the yearly saving and the payback time. The suggestion takes your consumption into account. The map is free and works in French and German.

The estimate is built from laser (LiDAR) scans of the roofs, building outlines, roof orientation and tilt, and 15 years of weather data. It is a first estimate, not a site visit: use it to see whether solar is worth looking into before you ask installers for quotes.

We advise choosing an installer who holds a SER certificate (the joint certification also known as RESCert). No citation Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels run this certification together for installers of solar panels, solar water heaters, heat pumps, shallow geothermal systems and biomass boilers; a certificate is valid for 7 years and counts in all three regions. The SPW page describes the certification but does not say that a home installation must be done by a certified installer.
