Consider the optional tarif Impact only if you can shift big electricity loads

Since 2026 Walloon households with a smart meter can opt for tarif Impact, a grid tariff with five time bands at three price levels. The regulator says it is not meant for most consumers, only for those who can move large loads.

Since 1 January 2026, Walloon households have a third way to pay for the use of the electricity grid, next to the single-rate and bi-hourly (day/night) tariffs: tarif Impact, an optional time-of-use grid tariff. It spreads the day over five time bands, billed at three price levels that your bill names PIC (peak), MEDIUM and ECO. It is intended for grid users who have a smart meter.

CWaPE, the Walloon energy regulator, says plainly that this option is not meant for most consumers. It is aimed at households with large loads they can move to the cheap hours, such as some electric-car owners or people with an electric water heater.

Nothing changes unless you ask for it: if you make no choice, you stay on your current single-rate or bi-hourly tariff. To switch to tarif Impact, you have to tell your supplier explicitly.
